I created this free personal use/scrap-4-hire Fourth of July 300 dpi transparent PNG scrapbook cluster for all the US-based scrappers who will be celebrating Independence Day this weekend. But in spite of its red, white and blue color scheme that's iconic for this very patriotic American holiday, the image is designed so it can be used by anyone in the world.

I used components from a lot of different designers to create this 4th of July cluster. Gunhilde Storeide provided the blue cord cluster that forms the base of the image, as well as the red and white checked gingham ribbon. Cajoline of Cajoline-Scrap.Blogspot.com provided the greenery and flowers, the variegated red curled ribbon came from Gemini Creationz of GeminiCreationz-ByVickiG.Blogspot.com, the red star came from Alikas Scraps and the sprinkling of silver glitter that gives the feeling of fireworks is from DeliciousScraps.com.

I call this free spring scrapbooking frame "Strawberry Fields," for obvious reasons. Its cheerful strawberries, white blossoms and shiny green leaves are the perfect visual antidote for those of you who are still in the winter doldrums. It was created as a 300 dpi PNG file with a transparent background, so you can use it as a photo frame, journaling box or just a lovely embellishment on a scrapbook page or handmade card.

This free Valentine's Day scrapbook quickpage can be used for S4H/personal use and features the valentines frame I posted last month. (That frame image can now be used for S4H, by the way. I've included it in the zip file with this quickpage, along with the terms of use.)

This valentine quickpage features lots of romantic bling, in the form of sparkly "diamonds" and glitter, and a beautiful heart-shaped jewel. The purple and spring green color scheme isn't necessarily traditional for Valentine's Day, but I figured you can get pink and red valentine images anywhere. Not everyone will have purple and green!

Free Winter Snowflakes Scrapbook Paper

This free personal use and scrap for hire (PU/s4h) winter snowflake scrapbook paper is perfect for Christmas, Hanukkah or just plain old winter scrapbooks, handmade cards and crafts. For me the design is wishful thinking, because I live in a place where it never snows: South Florida. So the only snow I ever see is on my computer screen or TV. Free Fall Apples and Word Art Scrapbook Elements

I call this free mini CU/S4H/PU fall scrapbook kit How Do You Like Them Apples? for obvious reasons. The red and green apple images have a grungy look that matches my fall leaves and scrapbook papers, so these make a great addition for those who have bought or plan to buy those fall kits. (The bundle that has both the leaves and the papers is insanely inexpensive at only $1.50.) There are also three matching word art elements.

It's unusual for me to offer free CU images, but I wanted people to be able to use the with my CU fall kits. Please do read and honor the terms of use in the kit, though, because "CU" doesn't mean "free reign."

The name of this scrapbook kit reminds me of one of the funniest lines in Good Will Hunting. For those who haven't seen the movie (and I highly recommend it), the interchange goes something like this: Matt Damon's character is in a Harvard-area bar, trying to pick up on Minnie Driver's character. While there he gets into a fight with several snobby Harvard students who don't think he's good enough to be there. Naturally, though, he gets Driver's phone number, because he's so charming. After leaving the bar, he spots the snobs sitting at a table by the window in a coffee shop.

He yells through the window at the main snob, "Hey, do you like apples?"

The snob looks confused but says, "Yeah, why?"

Damon slams the piece of paper with Driver's phone number against the window and says, "Because I got her number. How do you like them apples?"

I don't know if that's funny in print, but it makes me laugh every time I see the movie.

Free Halloween Scrapbook Cluster

I call this free personal use/S4H Halloween scrapbook cluster Halloween Sewing Circles, because it features machine-made stitches, buttons, string and straight pins, with a few fall leaves thrown in for good measure. I created this Halloween sewing-theme cluster in honor of my mother, who was a professional seamstress. She made most of my clothes when I was growing up, which allowed me to wear the very loud colors I favored at the time and couldn't find in stores. I cringe when I think of the semi-formal metallic off-the-shoulder dress in bright shades of teal and magenta that she made for me in junior high. Or the skirt and jacket with fluorescent (and that's not exaggerating) orange accents. You could practically see them from outer space. Yikes. Well, I thought it was cool at the time and my mom let me have whatever fabric I wanted. For that she deserves to have at least a Halloween scrapbook embellishment dedicated to her!

I'm not a morbid person by any means, but I must say that my Halloween kits have been a little on the creepy side. That's the point of Halloween, after all. I'm very happy with both of the kits, but I must say I'm glad to leave the dark side, design-wise, and start working on my two new companion kits, Home for the Holidays: Thanksgiving and Home for the Holidays: Christmas. I never know what a kit will truly look like until it's almost finished, but I'm planning lots of warm colors and a real homey feel.

Free Fall Leaves Scrapbook Cluster

This free PU/S4H fall scrapbook cluster was created using my fall leaf elements. It started out quite simply but I got carried away and couldn't stop adding leaves. Hence, we have the ornate cluster you see before you! I hope you find it useful for your personal or scrap for hire projects. (No commercial use of this freebie, please.)

I'm a little biased, but I think this cluster came out kind of pretty! ;-) It reminds me a lot of the seemingly billions of leaves that used to fall every autumn in the yard of the house I grew up in. There was a liquid amber tree in the front yard that had beautiful colored leaves in the fall. It stood out, because there weren't a lot of colorful leaves in the part of L.A.'s San Fernando Valley where I lived. Most trees went from green to gray-brown to naked in rapid succession. Now I live in South Florida and there's nary an autumn leaf to be seen. But we do have spectacular giant flowering trees with blossoms in bright shades of persimmon and yellow in the spring, so that kind of balances things out.

Today I have to take care of some overdue housekeeping. I was so busy putting up my new DigitalScrapbookingSupplies.com site, I had to delay posting my gratitude for a blog award I received last week. So, thanks to Laura at the lovely The Alliance Trader blog for giving Free Scrapbooking Supplies the "Cherry on Top" award:

I couldn't be more pleased! It's my first blog award, so it's extra special to me. According to the award rules, I'm supposed to thank the giver, show the award, post a favorite picture, name three things I love and give the award to five other bloggers.

So here's one of my favorite pictures of all time. It's of my nephew Spencer at Disney World when he was two or so:

Look at those big blue eyes! And I'm sure you'll recognize the frame.

As for what I love, that made me stop and think. Here's what I came up with:

1.) Designing images
For years I made my living as a magazine art director, until I switched to writing and editing. It's only recently that I returned to design -- this time to please myself, not clients. The fact that people seem to like some of the things I create brings me a lot of joy.

2.) Watching movies
This may seem lame, but I love movies! I was even an extra in a few of them when I lived in Los Angeles.

3.) Spending time with children
I don't get to do it that often because I don't have children of my own, but I always find myself uplifted after hanging out with kids.

This free personal use Halloween scrapbook quickpage was created with my new Something Wicked scrapbook elements kit. I've been having so much fun designing scrapbook images, I decided to build a site to sell some of them. (Don't worry; there will always be freebies on this blog!)

The new site is DigitalScrapbookingSupplies.com and at least initially it will focus on commercial use images. I know how frustrating it is to find an image you like, only to discover you can't use it on a commercial project. Slowly but surely, I'll fill the site with all kinds of affordable goodies that you can use to build your own kits, do scrap for hire projects or make other print or Web products. There will be some limitations, but I'm attempting to be as flexible as possible.

This is the free fall scrapbook quickpage layout called "Rain, Rain,Go Away" that I promised to post. It was created using the full free Fall Magic scrapbook kit posted last week. (There's also a free fall mini-kit and another fall quickpage that match.)

This quickpage includes another whimsical bird from the kit. I love the look on his face! Special thanks to Helga of GrannyArt.Blogspot.com for allowing me to include him, the other birds, the leaves and other images from her vast collection in my Fall Magic kit. Thanks also to Kelcey of LunaRosa Scraps and Marisa of Pixeled Memories for use of components from their collections in the kit and in this layout.

Next week I'll be posting a free quickpage using elements from my upcoming kit, "Something Wicked." As you might guess from the name, it's a Halloween kit. It will have some fun and unusual embellishments, so I hope people will find it useful. I'm also working on a huge collection of winter snowflake elements with a variety of looks: gold, copper, silver, transparent, pastel and more. Some even have jewels added, making them extra blingy. I think they're pretty and I hope you will too.

This is the large free Fall Magic digital scrapbook kit I've been working on for a while. It features a riot of color and a lot of fun elements, such as whimsical birds wearing hats and a mouse drinking tea, to go along with the traditional ones you might expect in a kit with its name. I've also included some black elements and some that sparkle and shine, because I really like the way they work with the bright colors in the kit.

I've already posted a Fall Magic mini-kit that coordinates with this full version and a matching quickpage. Another fun quickpage made with the kit, titled "Rain, Rain, Go Away," will be posted next week.

Free Autumn Scrapbook Quickpage

This free personal use digital fall scrapbook quickpage was created with components from the Fall Magic scrapbook kit that I'm in the process of designing. It's going to be a big kit, so I wanted to audition some of the components to see how much more I need to add to make the kit truly useful.

I wanted this kit to reflect its name: Fall Magic. So I've included birds wearing hats, an adorable mouse sipping tea from a china cup, butterflies, stars and other magical elements. There are also autumn word art elements and plenty of autumn-related images to round out the collection. I hope to post the kit soon. But in the meantime, feel free to download the Fall Magic mini-kit that I already posted, along with the quickpage in this post. Update 9-10-10: The full Fall Magic scrapbook kit is now available.

Fall Magic Scrapbook Mini Kit Freebie

This free digital scrapbooking kit is called Fall Magic. It contains seven freebie PU/S4H scrapbooking paper designs in fall colors, patterns and textures; two clusters with cheerful autumn flowers and leaves; and one quickpage.

It's not even close to fall-like weather here in South Florida; we have two months to go before we can even wear long sleeves. But since most other people in the U.S. and elsewhere are getting ready for the changing seasons, I thought this mini-kit would be useful. I'm planning to do a full kit with autumn images and some fun magical elements, but I was just itching to get at least some of what I've created into circulation now. Digital Scrapbook Freebie Kit: Country Afternoon

This free digital scrapbooking kit is called Country Afternoon, and it's for those who love the peaceful country life. It features a trellis covered with flowers, surrounded by a weathered garden gate and an old well. A chicken grazes quietly by the well, presumably enjoying all the colorful flowers in bloom.

There are 10 country-inspired PNG elements in this kit, including a chicken, an egg, a well, a fence fronted by flowers, grass, a weathervane, a trellis covered in flowers, and three flower images. There is also a quick page that shows the trellis, fence and well combined. The eight matching papers come in soft shades of purple, blue, cream and mauve, in watercolor, distressed and stripe designs.

The elements for this kit came from Helga of GrannyArt.Blogspot.com and the papers are altered versions of designs used by permission from Cindy of Statchoo Scraps, Kelcey of LunaRosa Scraps and Silke of Papierstudio Scrap Designs. Thanks to all of them for their creativity!

Swirls Freebie Digital Scrapbook Kit

This personal use freebie digital scrapbooking kit is called Swirls, for obvious reasons. It will always be special to me, because it's the first kit I've ever designed! I hope you like it and find it useful.

The kit contains a quick page, two background papers and two transparent clusters, suitable to be used as frames. Its soft color palette of purple, ivory and teal would be perfect for a wedding or anniversary scrapbook, or to document any elegant occasion. This design is what my mother would have called "fancy schmancy." Since the 20th anniversary of her death is coming up in a few weeks, she's been on my mind. I'm sure she would have approved of this very feminine design.

Free Wedding Mini Frame Scrapbook Embellishment

This freebie floral frame cluster embellishment is perfect for small photos for a wedding or commitment ceremony, or for any time you want an elegant look. I'm always amazed at people who release whole kits or quick pages with complex images like this, because this one took me forever to make! I can't imagine making a kit, but I suppose I will some day. Maybe I'll get faster as I become more experienced.

At any rate, I just love the look of this triple frame. It features roses and other flowers and scrollwork embellishments from Lesley of Scrappiness Downunder, a ribbon from Jamie of Jamie Dell Scraps and a frame from Karen of Kaklei Designs, although it's been greatly modified from its original form. My thanks to all for use of the images.

Free Grandparents Day Scrapbook Paper

Here's something you don't see every day: Grandparents Day scrapbook paper. Grandparents Day is on the first Sunday after Labor Day (Sunday, September 12 in 2010 and September 11, 2011), so I thought this paper would come in handy right about now, because you don't have to just use it for scrapbooking; it also makes great wrapping paper for small Grandparents Day gifts, such as family photo books -- affordable coffee table quality printed and bound photo books of varying sizes that will take your scrapbooking to a whole new level.

I envy those of you who still have your grandparents around to honor on Grandparents Day. My paternal grandfather died before I was born and his wife passed on when I was very young. My maternal grandparents lived until I was in my later teens but that was a very long time ago! I still remember the way my maternal grandfather sang to me when I was a little girl. He also paid for my education, because my father died when I was a young teenager and there wasn't a lot of money in the household. I owe my being able to create scrapbook paper to him, because he paid for a special technical training program that taught me graphic design. So, all these years later, I'd like to say a public "thanks" to my Grandpa Fred for his love and support.

Free Purple Flourishes Scrapbook Paper

This free purple scrapbook paper features flourishes and a bit of an updated take on an old-world look. I hope you'll find it useful for scrapbook backgrounds, handmade cards, origami and other crafts -- whether you're going for a vintage look or not.

I'm a bit of a vintage lover, so this pattern appeals to that part of me. (Click the Vintage Scrapbooking button in the sidebar to visit my other blog if you're a vintage lover too.) I also love purple. These shades of purple aren't exactly what you would think of as vintage, but that's why I like them! The design is more of an homage than a literal interpretation. It also has vertical straight lines, which I always find creeping into my work. I began my career as a technical illustrator many years ago (when computers weren't even thought of yet and we drew everything by hand!), so I fear all those airplane fuselages and flow charts I inked have seeped into my brain and are causing it to see things in quite a linear way.

The pretty flourishes in this scrapbook paper design are called "April Ornaments" and they come from Jennifer Furlotte of Pixels and Ice Cream. Thanks, Jennifer!

These pink and blue scrapbook journaling tags are so light and airy looking, they reminded me of the impending days of summer. They have a cute whimsical design made at Picnik.com that isn't just for scrapbook journaling; they would also be very useful for handmade cards. One of them might even be nice with the word "Mother" or "Mom" on it in script or a funky font like "Curlz" for a Mother's Day card. Since Mother's Day is next weekend, it could be a quick way to make a custom card that your mom would love.

Green Vines Scrapbook Paper

This free green scrapbook paper has intertwining vines, just like the navy blue scrapbook paper I just posted. This scrapbook paper definitely reminds me of spring. Not only does it have the colors of fresh asparagus and grass sprouts, but the design is bursting with energy. It would look terrific with purple, pink or yellow accents. There are probably also a lot of other colors that would go well with it.

I used two layers of color for the vines in this paper and I like the multi-dimensional look that gives it. I'm sure it will come in useful for a few spring and summer projects! I hope you enjoy using it.

Free Navy Blue Vines Scrapbook Paper

This free digital navy blue scrapbook paper features layers of creeping, intertwining vines, vaguely reminiscent of the tangles of water plants we have in the Everglades down here in South Florida. (4-1-2010 update: If you like green, you might also like this green scrapbook paper I just posted that has the same vine design.)

This modern scrapbooking paper design has a slight texture to it, so it almost looks like fabric. It's the result of an early morning spent experimenting in Picnik, the free graphics program. The design is a bit wild-looking but that's what I like that about it. It's also quite a departure from my usual button-down style. If you like this particular look, please leave me a comment so I'll know to make more of them.

Free Regal Red Scrapbook Paper

This call this red scrapbook paper "regal" because the color reminds me of English palaces, or our American counterpart, Hearst Castle. For those who haven't been there, Hearst Castle is located in Northern California and is the closest thing we Americans have to a palace. Owned by William Randolph Hearst, the castle was as lavish as any castle in England. My parents used to take me there when I was a child and I remember not being able to get enough of the opulence. It was worlds away from my life in L.A.'s San Fernando Valley!

I liked antiques even as a child, so I was in heaven whenever we visited the magnificent playground Hearst built for his movie star friends. Anyway, this red scrapbook paper harks brings me back to the regal feeling of the castle. Spring begins in less than a week, so I thought I'd post this free pink roses scrapbook paper to get in the mood. With its soft pink and peach tones and touches of pale yellow, this subtle design is spring-y and also perfect for Easter scrapbooking. The pretty pink rose used in this design is actually a vintage image from Vintagerio, which has many more vintage floral graphics in their collection of 15,000+ images.

I've been designing invitations and other party printables lately, and I might just use this rose scrapbook paper as the background for one of my printable party kits that include invitations, table place cards and napkin rings.

Free St Patricks Day Scrapbook Journaling Card

This free St.Patrick's Day scrapbook journaling card embellishment couldn't be any cuter, if I do say so myself. Actually, I can say that without arrogance, because I didn't draw the green leprechaun's top hat that forms the design. It comes from Picnik, the free graphics program that doesn't require registration and anyone can use. I just modified the hat design with some light-colored lines so it can be used as a journaling card. It has a white background, so you can either cut it into a square shape or cut around the shape of the hat. It doesn't have too many twists and turns, so that can probably be done pretty easily.

If you like this design, you can also get it in clip art form without the lines on my free St. Patrick's Day clip art hub. I also made a free printable St. Patrick's Day party invitation out of it. And you might enjoy this free St. Patrick's Day scrapbook paper too.

Free Fleur de Lis Scrapbook Paper

This free fleur de lis scrapbook paper is periwinkle, or pale blue-violet for the uninitiated. It features a subtle tone-on-tone effect that gives it a classy, low-key look. It's simple enough to be used a background behind other colors and textures, but the design can also stand alone. You might want to try pairing it with my black scroll work scrapbook paper or the reverse version with black scroll work on a white background. (Update 2-7-2010: I just launched a collection of assorted free blue scrapbook papers that include this fleur de lis design in other shades of blue.)

I remember thinking when I was a child that periwinkle was a funny name. It's even funnier now that I know that a periwinkle is not only the name for a color in the lavender family and a pretty five-petaled purple flower, but it's also the name for a gastropod mollusc that looks a whole lot like a snail. Fortunately for you, I've chosen to depict a graceful fleur de lis in shades of periwinkle, not a periwinkle itself. I think the fleur de lis is a whole lot prettier.

I know it might seem strange, but my scrapbook papers like children to me. I nurture each one along and then eventually send it out into the world to see what it can accomplish. To my surprise, the Halloween masks scrapbook paper in this post came back as the wonderful handmade card shown below, created by Clear and Simple Stamps for Take the Challenge Tuesday. Clear and Simple has regular Tuesday challenges, so if you want to have some fun, subscribe to their blog for updates. They also have a Let's Get Punchy challenge, so check that out, too, if you love the creative use of punches. A fence punch was used for the card design and I think it adds an oh-so-cute touch.

There are actually two versions of the Halloween mask scrapbook paper design above -- this one with small masks and another with larger masks. I'm not sure which size was used for the card, but if you'd like to create something similar, you might as well have access to both. Just click here to see the larger version. Free Happy Pumpkins Halloween Scrapbook Paper

I couldn't resist these carved Jack-o-lantern pumpkin photos I found on Picnik, so I made them into another one of my free Halloween scrapbook papers. I chose only smiling pumpkins (and one that has the time-honored "Trick or Treat" carved into it), because I don't like the scary side of Halloween as much as the more whimsical and fun aspects. Not that I think there's anything wrong with the wilder side of Halloween; I've just never been one for gross or scary stuff. So we've got photos of a bunch of very happy pumpkins, gathered together for your scrapbooking pleasure. Personally, I think this design is a hoot.

I'm several days away from receiving the new Photoshop software I ordered from Amazon.com and I can't wait to get it. I'm sure I'll be able to do ever so much more with my images once I master its use. It's going to be fun!

This free scrollwork scrapbook paper features a cool dandelion-like design in black on white. It matches the black scrollwork scrapbook paper I already posted on this blog, as well as a version I posted on my vintage scrapbooking blog that has a tan background that makes it sort of look like a vintage scrapbook paper. I happen to like stripes with scroll work, so eventually I'll probably post a black and white striped paper design you can also pair with these.

Until now I've been making my scrapbook papers in Fireworks and Picnik. But I'm ready to step up to PhotoShop and see what kind of fun things I can create with that. I'm really looking forward to it. I'll be sure to share what I make!

Free Halloween Bats Scrapbook Paper

This free orange Halloween scrapbook paper features black bats flying every which way, presumably getting ready for Halloween. It's a great complement to the black Halloween spider scrapbook paper and Halloween journaling card I posted a few months ago, if I do say so myself. ::grin:: It's part of my much larger Halloween paper crafts collection, which has all kinds of creepy but fun Halloween themes like skeletons, Frankenstein, ghosts, witches, spiders and Halloween masks on scrapbooking papers, journaling cards and borders.

The bats on this scrapbook paper design actually triggered a cascade of childhood memories for me. My boyfriend wrote in one of his motivational books about how certain sights, smells and sounds "anchor" in us if they have a special meaning, are traumatic or otherwise stand out in some way. Once that anchor is in place, all you have to do is experience the trigger and all the memories anchored to it come flooding in. That's what these black bats did for me.

My first bat-related anchor is a pleasant one. When I was eight or so, I attended the Bar Mitzvah of our neighbor's son, which happened to be conducted by the rabbi who lived next door to them. I was friendly with the rabbi's son and daughter, because they were around my age and I went to school with them. I had no idea what a Bar Mitzvah was but my mom, dad and I dressed in our Sunday best and off we went to the temple, which was only a few blocks away. I don't remember much about the service, except that I didn't understand it. What I do remember -- and here comes the bat connection -- was that Adam West, the original Batman, was there. He was a friend of the Bar Mitzvah boy's parents, so he was a guest there just like the rest of us. For those who weren't even alive then, let me tell you that today's equivalent of being in the same room with Batman would be to spend the afternoon with Beyonce Knowles or Seth Rogen, depending on your preference. (Or just fill in the modern celebrity of your choice.) It was quite a thrill. Coincidentally, Adam West also had a brief appearance in one of my favorite movies, Drop Dead Gorgeous. So if you don't know him as Batman, maybe you know him as the slightly lascivious beauty pageant host.

The other bat anchor was actually connected to that experience, because it involves the rabbi and his family. But while the other experience was wonderful, the second one was decidedly tragic. Apparently the rabbi and his wife weren't home one afternoon and their three children decided to play with their backyard barbecue. I'll keep the details brief, because the results were horrendous. Suffice it to say that a flame from the barbecue traveled up a stream of lighter fluid to the can, which was being held by one of the kids. It ignited instantly, creating a fireball. Two survived and one didn't. The daughter held on for a while before she died and I think her death broke the remaining family's spirit so badly that they had to move out of the house. I believe the rabbi also gave up his post at that temple that was walking distance from the block on which we lived. For a short period of time after that I saw him walking by our house to go to work with his head hung low. And then I never saw any of them again. But I still think of the incident as if it happened yesterday.

So I'm going to go back to thinking about Adam West now; it's much more pleasant. It's a little hard to steer the focus back to Halloween bat scrapbook paper but that's why you're here, right? So let's all shake off the bad bats and embrace the fun ones on this design. I hope you find lots of fun uses for it.

Free Black Scrollwork Scrapbook Paper

I love black scrapbook paper, and I recently felt the urge to create some. The result was this printable black scrollwork scrapbook paper design, which features a dandelion-like image I found in Picnik. I also made a reverse black-on-white version, which I may post eventually. That black-on-white scrapbook paper design was also the basis for a faux-vintage scrollwork scrapbook paper, which I've posted on my Vintage Scrapbooking blog. It has a tan background with a subtle brown design, so it's a little less bold than the design on this page.

But I have to say, I liked this black background version the best of all that I played around with. Either that says I have a dark personality or I just like that black looks so classy and clean. It probably uses up a good bit of printer ink, too; but hey, let's all live a little.

I love to use black patterned backgrounds like this in combination with just a little glitter paper (I got mine in an assortment of gorgeous colors from Target) to form a frame, topped by a colorful vintage image. You can use the black scrapbook paper underneath the glitter paper or the other way around; either way is pretty. I've made some lovely handmade cards using that technique.

Summer is starting to wind down, which is just fine with me. I'm more than a little tired of the heat. One thing I could never get tired of, however, are these vintage flowers, which summon the feeling of summer because of their cheerful colors. They're perfect for scrapbooks or handmade cards for birthdays, weddings, graduations, anniversaries or even for baby showers.

This free fall scrapbook paper conjures up images of fallen orange leaves on a rainy autumn afternoon. You know what I mean? When it's raining and the leaves layer one on top of another on the ground to form a wet carpet?

Pardon me for waxing rhapsodic; I guess I'm just craving fall. Although it's cooled down over the last few days, it's been a generally brutal summer here in South Florida and I'm ready for cooler weather.

This fall scrapbook paper is part of a much larger collection of fall and Thanksgiving scrapbook papers I just finished, which include a wide variety of free printable designs. This falling leaves scrapbook paper is one of the more subtle designs. There are also some bold and colorful whimsical trees and leaves, pumpkins, turkeys, acorns, "Happy Thanksgiving" wishes and some coordinating stripes and solids in fall colors. This free star burst birthday scrapbook paper is part of a much bigger collection of free papers designed just for birthday scrapbooks. Free Flower Scrapbook Journaling Card Embellishment

This free scrapbook journaling box matches the purple flower scrapbook paper I posted a few weeks ago. I ordinarily put lines inside the journaling boxes I design but I thought this one was so pretty without them, I left them out. Also, I thought this would make a lovely photo frame if you cut around the inside round border and the edges of the flower that fall inside the circle. If you want the lines for journaling, you can always use a ruler to add them after you print the embellishment. Or if you have Photoshop or Fireworks, you can add them to the digital art.

Free Patriotic Scrapbook Journaling Card Embellishment

People who are visiting this blog from other parts of the world might not relate to this post, because it's strictly for Americans. An Australian woman once posted on my Fourth of July clip art hub that she had noticed from afar and respected how much Americans love the U.S. flag. I never thought about it before she brought it up but it's true. Our national freedom and ideals have been hard-won by people who laid their lives on the line and our flag is a symbol of that.

We have a lot of patriotic holidays that celebrate the flag and people who fought for it. The first one of the year is this weekend: Memorial Day, when we honor those who died in American wars. Because I come from a family that had two men who served in the military, I felt inspired by this holiday to design a journaling card that can be used to write in a scrapbook about a Memorial Day picnic, concert or any other event. But its use doesn't have to stop there. This patriotic scrapbook embellishment can also be used for Flag Day in June, the Fourth of July, Veterans Day in November and even to make notes about local elections.

When I saw Picnik's new baby clipart a few months ago, I knew I had to do something fun with it. The result was the two baby scrapbook papers you see on this page, plus many others that can be accessed on my baby scrapbook papers and embellishments hub.

I created one set of papers for girls and one for boys. The boys just happened to luck out and get the bees, which I think are adorable. I liked them so much, I created several scrapbook papers that feature them exclusively. Click the second link in the previous paragraph to see them.

These baby scrapbook papers aren't just for scrapbooking. You could also use them to create a handmade card for a baby shower or birth announcement. They also would make excellent wrapping paper for a small baby gift.

Free Scrapbooking Supplies: Black and White Flower Scrapbook Paper

This black and white flower scrapbook paper walks the line between vintage and thoroughly contemporary. It has a bold, classic look that would work beautifully as a background for a scrapbook page or embellishment, or on a handmade card. I can just see this used with other elements that contain strong colors, such as red, teal or magenta.

I designed this scrapbook paper myself using Picnik.com, the free graphics program anyone can use. (Read my Picnik tutorial to learn how to make your own clip art or scrapbook papers and embellishments.) Actually, I should say that I put the elements together but the Picnik artists are responsible for creating all the lovely individual flowers. I constantly marvel at the talent of their artists.

I also used this same design as a base for a set of pastel vintage scrapbook papers, which are available free at my Vintage Holiday Crafts blog. You'll probably be surprised at how different they look because of the color changes (they come in pale sage, dusty pink, soft blue and warm brown) and the addition of vintage "weathering." The combination makes them look downright Victorian. I also created some coordinating vintage striped paper in the same colors and the same weathered look.

Whether you like bold or soft and vintage, I hope you enjoy these free scrapbook papers!

What I call the American patriotic season is almost here. It begins with Memorial Day in May, when we honor those who gave their lives while fighting in American wars. It then moves onto Flag Day in June, which is pretty self-explanatory.

Pardon the pun, but it really takes off on the Fourth of July when Americans watch fireworks that commemorate the fiery birth of our country. Then, patriotic season culminates with Veterans Day in November, which was created as a way to make sure we honor our veterans at least once a year.

If you have any kind of a patriotic streak in you, you'll love this free American flag scrapbook embellishment, which can also be used on Web sites, on blogs or in many other ways. This gorgeous vintage birthday card would make a great scrapbook embellishment, and would be terrific on the front of a handmade card. The colors are almost mesmerizing to me. I love the saturation of the hues in the pansies. Pansies may not be that color in real life but who cares! And who knows, there might have been pansies that color around the time this was painted! Anyway, I'm sure you'll find many uses for this exceptional vintage birthday card embellishment.

Free Scrapbooking Supplies: Vintage Baby Scrapbook Embellishment

I believe this free vintage baby scrapbook embellishment was originally a cigar label that has been digitally altered to remove the lettering. (I downloaded it from Vintagerio, which you can visit by clicking the ad in the sidebar.)

Not your usual Gerber baby, this chubby guy looks more like many real-life babies; he's a little on the pudgy side. The pre-cute-baby-marketing-era look of this scrapbook embellishment enhances the vintage feel, as does the gold filigree work around the edge and the subtle way the aqua color fades into the ivory background.

This vintage baby will be a fun addition to a scrapbook, especially if you write something in the background. Gold or brown ink would be particularly pretty used in conjunction with this image. In my experience, butterflies are second only to flowers when it comes to popularity with crafters and scrapbookers. Both are cheerful and feminine, and they're also pretty universal. They can be used for weddings, birthdays, graduations, Mother's Day and many other occasions.

This particular scrapbook layout and embellishment set was created in Picnik. The Picnik artists designed these gorgeous butterflies, and then I compiled them into various scrapbook papers, layouts and embellishments. There are both contemporary and vintage sepia-tone butterfly designs in the collection, so there's a little something for everyone.

I've been around the vintage art block a little while now. If there's one thing I know, it's that scrapbookers, card-makers and crafters love vintage roses. They've always been quite popular on my Vintage Holiday Crafts blog. So I decided to create this vintage pink rose scrapbook paper that features sweet little vintage pink roses. To me it's reminiscent of bedroom wallpaper from days gone by.

This would make a great background for a scrapbook, of course. But it also would be beautiful incorporated into a vintage-look handmade card or other crafts. If you find a special use for it, I would love to know what you used it for. Feel free to leave a comment and let me know.

The roses for this scrapbook paper came from Vintagerio, which has an unbelievable number of quality vintage images you can download for one low price. Downloading images from that site has been some of the most fun I've ever had online. I wouldn't do that unless I felt it was an extraordinary value.

Free Scrapbooking Supplies: Vintage Seed Packet Embellishment

I'm a bit of a vintage art fanatic and have a huge collection of vintage images, but something that never ceases to amaze me is the beauty of Victorian and vintage seed packets. In some cases, the level of detail and quality of the paintings rivals the great masters. The seed packet embellishment to the right is a perfect example of this. Released in 1889 by the D.M. Ferry Company of Detroit, Michigan, this packet of asters is both colorful and whimsical. It also features some gorgeous lettering, the likes of which we don't see today.

This scrapbook embellishment would be perfect for use in a Victorian- or vintage-look scrapbook, or even for a handmade card. And as I always advocate when vintage flowers are involved, the use of a small amount of different colors of glitter glue would make this image really pop. (See the bottom of this post for the kind of glitter glue I recommend.)

Free Scrapbooking Supplies: Vintage Flower Border Embellishments

These gorgeous vintage flower frames are useful in so many ways for scrapbooking. Of course, they can be used for digital scrapbooking but you can also print them and use manicure scissors or a craft knife to cut around the detailed edges. If you don't want to go to all that trouble, you can just cut a nice rectangle around the art and either paste it as is or frame it with ribbon that will cover up the edges of the paper or card stock. If you cut out the center you can layer it over a photo. A handwritten message in the center would also be lovely. And of course, as with many scrapbooking supplies, these embellishments can also be used on Mother's Day, birthday or anniversary cards, or graduation or wedding scrapbooks.

To make something very special out of these, I suggest using several types of specialty glue made by Elmer's. (I've tried almost all brands and Elmer's is the best.) Before doing this, however, you would want the art to be printed on card stock. You can then add small amounts of glitter glue in colors that match the flowers and the leaves. If you want to make the border look like it's encased in a clear coating, use several coatings of Elmer's School Glue Gel, making sure to let the coats dry in between. The gel appears slightly blue in the bottle, but it dries clear and shiny and enhances the glitter underneath it. This technique takes a little practice but can be quite stunning when done correctly. For your convenience, there are different packages of Elmer's glitter glue shown below in the Amazon carousel. Amazon doesn't sell the School Glue Gel, but you can get it at your local discount, craft or drug store.

If you lived in Victorian times, you wouldn't have gone to someone's home without leaving your calling card. If you did that today, the person you were visiting would probably think you were trying to sell something! But in days gone by, it was just standard procedure. These calling cards were often ornate and included the name of the caller so there would be a record of the visit. These cards probably more often than not ended up in the scrapbooks produced by Victorian ladies. So these Victorian scrapbook embellishments are a perfect reminder of those days and a great addition if you love to incorporate vintage elements into your scrapbooks.

Free Scrapbooking Supplies: Graduation Scrapbook Paper

This 2009 graduation scrapbook paper was designed to be used as a full sheet or as embellishments you can cut apart and layer on another background. Either way you use it, your graduate will see your pride.

The "Congratulations" shield is a photo frame. If you use it as an embellishment, you can cut around the outer edges and also around the edges of the white oval to create a hole for the photo to come through. Alternatively, you can cut out the outer edge in a rectangle shape, which will eliminate the need for cutting around the detailed edges. The "2009" and its seal and ribbon can also be cut out and layered onto a scrapbook page to mark the year of this very special accomplishment.

Vintage Pink Rose Scrapbook Embellishment

Love your mother? Then use this beautiful vintage rose scrapbook embellishment to write her a short tribute note in a scrapbook made especially for her for Mother's Day.

You can also use this scrapbook embellishment for vintage wedding scrapbooks or even for birthdays. And you don't have to restrict yourself to using this as one of your scrapbooking supplies. This image can be used to create a handmade greeting card, a table place card, or a wedding invitation or thank you note. You could even cut out part of the note card area of the image and layer it over a photo to make a frame. The uses for this image are practically endless.

I love the gorgeous colors in this vintage painting. Wherever you add this pretty rose will certainly be enhanced by it. And it has been modified to removed the original message, so you can write whatever you want on it.

Free Scrapbooking Supplies: Santa Claus 3D Stickers

Except for possibly Jesus, there's no more iconic Christmas image than Santa Claus. He was portrayed a little differently in vintage art than he is today, but he's always been the symbol of unconditional love for children at Christmas time.

This vintage Santa Claus 3D scrapbook sticker, which was digitally converted from a vintage Christmas card into a form that can be used in scrapbooks, comes in two sheets. You can cut out and layer as many or as few of the pieces as you want, which will simulate the results of using die cutting machines that are specially made for scrapbooking. Obviously, the more layers you apply, the thicker the finished sticker will be. In addition to using it in your arsenal of scrapbooking supplies, this design is ideal for creating vintage-inspired handmade Christmas cards or shadowboxes. The edges are a little detailed when you get down to the smaller pieces, so you'll want to have your manicure scissors or a sharp craft knife on-hand. But if you decide to use even the smallest level, your patience will be rewarded. The effect of having all those layers will be stunning!

For a 3D effect that won't buckle under pressure in your scrapbook, print the sheet on the heaviest card stock your printer will allow and use foam adhesive tape similar to the kind shown at the bottom of this post. You might also want to apply a little Elmer's glitter glue, which I highly recommend for adding some professional-looking sparkle. I've tried almost every kind of glitter glue on the market and I've never found any brand better than Elmer's. You'll find links to buy Elmer's glitter glue in the Amazon carousel below.

Although some might think it's a little early (this is being posted in March), in my opinion it's never too early for Christmas scrapbook stickers. And who knows, you might still be working on your scrapbooks from last Christmas, so this post could be right on time.

This scrapbook sticker template was created by cutting apart the individual components of a vintage card. The template sheet can be printed in virtually any size you want, and then you can cut out the pieces and layer them on top of each other. For a wonderful 3D effect, be sure to print the sheet on the heaviest card stock your printer will allow and then use a product similar to the foam adhesive tape shown at the bottom of this post. If you really want these to look great, apply just a little Elmer's glitter glue. I have a reasons for recommending Elmer's. I've tried virtually every kind of glitter glue I could get my hands on -- from the kind you buy at the dollar store to expensive brands available online or at craft stores, and I've never found any brand better than Elmer's.

This St. Patrick's Day scrapbook paper design is called Fluttery Shamrocks for good reason, because it features shamrocks falling on a soft background of aqua and subtle scrollwork. I don't know how the shamrock became a symbol of St. Patrick's Day. Perhaps it was because Ireland -- the home of St. Patrick -- is called the Emerald Isle and is covered with shamrocks. That's a reasonable assumption! Whatever the reason, shamrocks are instantly recognizable as symbols of St. Patrick's Day. So it was a natural thing to add them to this scrapbook paper design and many of the others you can find on the link in the previous paragraph.

This blog is dedicated to providing the best free scrapbooking supplies available. I design many of these scrapbook papers and embellishments myself in Picnik, the free online graphics programs anyone can use. I have a blast creating these and love sharing them, so I hope you'll enjoy using them. I also design quite a bit of free clip art in Picnik, all of which is available through my Free Clip Art Sourcebook. It's free to download and there's no registration information required.

I will also look for other free or low-cost scrapbooking supplies that I can bring to your attention, such as rubber stamps, digital scrapbooking supplies and anything else I think might be of interest.

The History of Scrapbooking

If you're a scrapbooker, you're in good company. Legend has it that scrapbooking began as early as the 15th century with something called the "commonplace book." These books were used to record information that everyone could access, such as prayers, medical formulas, weights and measures and other tidbits that people needed to know. They initially held what was considered to be important information but over time their use expanded to include recipes, articles and other items of a less urgent nature.

In Victorian times, women co-opted the art of scrapbooking and used it to create friendship books that contained memorabilia from visits they received from friends and suitors, places they had gone and life in general. Friendship scrapbooks were filled with photos, poems, engravings, cards, signatures and even locks of hair.

There have also been some famous scrapbookers. Thomas Jefferson kept a scrapbook and Mark Twain actually spent his Sundays creating scrapbooks. He then developed a product called Mark Twain's Adhesive Scrapbook, which included pre-pasted pages and was sold through Montgomery Ward. Although he is certainly a famous American literary icon, his scrapbook was actually one of his most popular books.

When the mini-series Roots came out, a whole new generation of people became fascinated with genealogy. It's not a surprise that a resurgence of interest in scrapbooking followed shortly thereafter.

As you know if you make scrapbooks, scrapbooking has become a hobby that many people passionately pursue. This is probably because people can not only create lasting memories for family and friends, but also because scrapbooks allow people who otherwise wouldn't have the abilities to be artists to be incredibly creative. For a scrapbooker, any time stickers, rubber stamps, ink, paint, ribbons and buttons are all in one place, it's irresistible not to make something wonderful from them.
